Lux Velvet

Lux Velvet is an Ottawa-based sex-positive party collective founded in December 2018 by Nicole Murphy and Alexandria Nuttal — two queer women who set out to build a non-monogamous community where women, LGBTQ+ people, and those new to open relationships could gather without the unsafe or exclusionary atmospheres they had encountered at established adult venues. Female-owned and operated, the collective welcomes swingers, polyamorous individuals and couples, people in open relationships, and the broadly curious, organized around consent, vetting, and discretion. Rather than occupying a fixed club space, Lux Velvet rotates through hotels, private bars, breweries, and private venues across Ottawa; the membership skews toward the 25–45 age range, though all adults 19+ are eligible to attend. The collective runs two distinct event formats. Public Mixers and themed Dance Parties — held approximately every other month at rotating Ottawa venues — are open to anyone 19+ and deliberately social in tone: music is kept at conversational volume and past editions have included art nights with professional nude models, game nights, and themed dance parties, as well as collaborations with other Ottawa sex-positive venues. Members-only play parties are a separate, invite-only tier hosted at vetted private venues, with location details shared only with ticketed members. Founders Nicole and Alexandria are present at every event and are available to members throughout the evening. The collective has partnered with adult wellness brands including Lelo, Liberator, and ScreamingO. Mixer tickets are priced at approximately C$15–C$20 in advance and C$20–C$25 at the door, with a discounted member rate; members-only play-party tickets are priced separately, typically C$45–C$65+ per event. Annual membership costs C$65 plus tax and requires attending a Mixer first, then completing a no-cost 30-minute video vetting call with one of the founders. Members sign a legally binding consent-and-confidentiality waiver, photography and recording devices are prohibited at all events, and a one-strike policy applies to all rule violations.
