The oldest lifestyle club in Alberta is also the one that still checks IDs itself
Club Rendezvous opened in 1983. That is older than a lot of the people who walk in on a Friday, and members have shortened the name to Club R somewhere along the way. The building is a plain unit off 39th Avenue in the northeast, five minutes from the airport and fifteen from downtown. There is a free lot out front and a door that tells the street nothing. Inside there is a host booth, a coat check, and then the room.
Ryan took the club over in 2012, and the version he built is the one Alberta did not have before. It is fully licensed and AGLC compliant, with a real bar instead of a cooler, a resident DJ instead of a playlist, and a door that someone is actually working. Downstairs is where the night happens. A big dance floor with a pole at the back, the DJ booth beside it playing dance and house, one long community table where strangers end up sharing a drink, and booths along the walls for the quieter conversations. Upstairs is the play area. It is open concept, with beds, couches and a swing, and curtains you can pull around a bed when you want the moment to yourself.
The building is not what regulars talk about, though. They talk about the tone. Consent is spoken out loud and enforced, harassment gets you removed, and the staff have a reputation for noticing before you have to say anything. First-timers get looked after instead of left to work it out. Phones stay in pockets. The dress code is real, and they will turn you away for sweatpants. Forty-three years in, the place still runs like it has something to prove, which I think is exactly why it has lasted.

Two floors. The social floor is at street level and the play space is upstairs, so the energy climbs as you go.
Ground floor
The Dance Floor
Big and loud, and where most nights start. A pole at the back, the DJ booth beside it, dance and house until close.
The Bar
Fully licensed, so no outside alcohol. There is a kitchen area beside it. Drinks are priced so people stay at the club instead of loading up beforehand.
The Community Table
One long table down the middle of the room. Sit at it and you will be talking to someone inside ten minutes. That is the whole point of it.
The Booths
Lounge booths along the walls for the smaller conversations. These are the ones that decide whether the night goes upstairs.

The Play Area
Open concept. Beds, mattresses, couches and a swing, with curtains that close around the beds. It is watched, it is clean, and nobody makes a thing of it.
Private and semi-private spaces
For couples who want the play side without an audience. First come, and a host keeps an eye on the landing.

Doors
IDs and membership at the host booth, then the coat check, then the room. Newcomers get greeted rather than processed. Someone will point you at the bar and the table.
The table fills
The first hour happens at the community table and in the booths. Nobody is upstairs yet. This is the part that surprises first-timers. It is a good bar with good music, and that is all it is for a while.
Lights down
The dance floor takes over. The DJ leans in, the dress code loosens, and the stairs get busier.
Peak
Upstairs is busy, the floor is busy, and staff are moving through every space. Consent is spoken and enforced all night, but this is the hour it matters most.
Close
The lights come up and the lot empties slowly. The airport is five minutes away. Downtown is fifteen.

Ten dollars a person, built for first visits. Regulars show up to make the room easy for people who have never been.
Workshops and socials
Music bingo, paint and play, a ladies-led evening, ice-breaker nights. Seven to eleven, and the easiest way to meet the room without the weight of a Saturday.

Ryan & Alicia

Ryan and Alicia took over Club Rendezvous in 2012 and turned a long-running party into a licensed, professionally run venue. The club says that work helped push Alberta's regulators to recognise lifestyle clubs at all. They run it together, they are in the building on the nights it is open, and reviewers keep landing on the same word for the owners, which is present. They notice you.
