Townhouse is a licensed lifestyle venue at 9 Union Street in Tranmere, Birkenhead, on the Wirral peninsula across the Mersey from Liverpool. Founded in 2005 and taken over by co-owners Vicky and Jim in 2012, it operates under a Sexual Entertainment Venue licence granted by Wirral Council and serves the swinging, BDSM/fetish, and LGBTQ+ communities. With over 25,000 registered members and a staff of more than 60, it is one of the largest lifestyle venues in the North West of England, drawing regulars from across the UK, Ireland, and mainland Europe. The venue spans four floors: a ground-floor bar and dance floor with a pole sets a sociable tone before guests venture upstairs to eight playrooms. These include a dungeon fitted with a St Andrews cross, suspension points, bondage beds, cages, and rope; a medical-fantasy Klinik with an inspection chair and leg stirrups; a wet room housing a hot tub, steam room, and waterfall showers; two private rooms; and a group play area. Free condoms — including latex-free options — are provided throughout; towels can be hired at the door for £1. The venue partners with Sahir House for on-site HIV and STI testing. No CCTV operates in playrooms or changing rooms, and mobile phones are banned throughout the building except at reception under manager supervision. Events run from a calendar of more than 35 named formats: daytime MILF Monday sessions, midweek evening parties on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and main nights on Fridays and Saturdays with doors at 8pm and close at 2am. Specialist programming includes all-female Ruby Slippers parties, BDSM and rope nights, FemDom afternoons, pet-play events, and a monthly Queer Space Social for LGBTQ+ guests. Annual membership is £10 per person; all events are advance-ticket only with no walk-in entry. Photo ID is checked at the door alongside a biometric fingerprint scan. Dress code requires smart casual before 10:30pm; club attire upstairs is mandatory after that.
