RIOT Party UK is a queer, sex-positive rave collective founded in London in 2023 by Maedb Joy and co-organiser Alex, both of whose backgrounds span music promotion and community activism. Conceived as a deliberate response to the lack of diversity in kink and lifestyle nightlife, RIOT explicitly centres QTIPOC communities, sex workers, and the wider LGBTQ+ crowd — placing them at the centre of the DJ lineups, performer rosters, and room culture rather than treating them as add-on constituencies. The collective operates as a roving promoter without a permanent premises, running monthly events primarily in London and with additional dates in Manchester and Bristol. RIOT's primary London home is Electrowerkz, an industrial multi-room venue at 7 Torrens Street in Islington's Angel area, selected in part for its fully ground-floor, step-free layout. Each party is divided into distinct zones: a multi-genre dancefloor anchored by live DJ sets (Dancehall, Afrobeats, House, UK Garage, Baile Funk, and Strip Hop feature regularly), a cabaret and performance stage, a queer independent marketplace with food vendors, workshop and exhibition spaces, and a fully equipped monitored playroom with BDSM apparatus, shibari-friendly setup, and cleaning supplies provided. Changing rooms, cloakrooms, and an accessible restroom are on-site at every event. A safeguarding team in bright LED armbands circulates throughout; all guests are encouraged to approach them with concerns. London parties typically run on Sunday afternoons and evenings — doors open around 4 pm and close several hours later, with the event running until midnight; special collaborations have run on other days. Tickets are sold in advance through Dice and OutSavvy, typically in the £15–25 range with a Low Income tier available; there are no walk-in purchases. Entry is 18+ and requires physical photo ID — no screenshots or photocopies accepted. Fetishwear or expressive alternative fashion is mandatory at the door across all genders; everyday clubwear, jeans, and items mocking fetish or queer culture are refused, and an outfit pre-approval service is available by email at least 48 hours before the event. Photography and video are banned throughout the venue, camera lenses are covered on arrival, and phones are prohibited in the playroom. No solo play or loitering in play areas is permitted; enthusiastic consent is required before any engagement.
